It’s funny how the I excel at the class I can apply and enjoy being in, compared to the ones I used to take and really struggled with. This is my midterm for my Building and Construction Management 1150 Midterm.

Oh an the 3 questions I missed I missed by this much —-> | |
I wish I would have been given at least partial credit.

Me wearing my safety award that was given to me last week! I felt really honored because they are only given out once a month to two individuals out of the 300 people on the site. Well… Actually the award was a gift card, which I used to purchase the High Vis jacket. And let’s be honest, a picture of a gift card would have just been boring.

What do you do when too many construction workers on a site are getting injured? You put them in a downtown hotels banquet room and spend $300,000 to feed them and put them through a workshop, where one of the assignments is to have them draw their vision of zero harm. That was something I never though I would see this particular group of people doing, bent over posters scribbling away like kindergarteners… In all seriousness though the Workshop was a lot of fun and I think it did a good job of changing everyone’s attitude toward safety. Above is my masterpiece for the art portion.

This is the bedside table/nightstand I made for myself today. All in all it cost about $30 in lumber, and it took me about 3 hours to build. I will post another picture of the finished product after I paint it tomorrow.

This is what happens when you poke yourself with a screw on a safety oriented site. 4 hours, 4 injury reports, 1 tetanus shot and 1 drug test later…

How I Tried To Explain Doing Taxes To My Boss

johnniesimpson:

“It’s like talking to a cop about what was stolen from your house, but the cop is the guy who robbed you, and he gets to decide whether or not he gives you any of your stuff back.”

She did not agree.

I love this comparison!

Here is my best picture from today’s pour. I loved it because after I finished vibrating and raking I got some quality finishing time in. Most company’s don’t finish footings because it will be at least 30 inches underground when construction is completed and nobody will see it unless the building is demolished, but because of the fact it makes it a lot easier to set your forms for the next pour, we do. Most people just rush through (bottom half) but I like to take my time (top half). It is hard to explain, but just sitting there with my magnesium float and trowel and being able to take my time was the most calming experience I have had all week and it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

Oh! I almost forgot. The semester started this week, and it might be too early to tell… But it look like I am going to enjoy it tremendously.

Wow! What a busy week! This is me forming the footings for piers that our going to support the pipe rack that leads to the tank behind me. We have had two fairly large pours this week, today we poured these (there are about 13 of them) and we have stayed busy tying the rebar and and stripping forms from Wednesdays pour in the meantime.

Welcome to my work station for the better part of today. We are pouring a ramp on Friday that is adjacent to the steel erectors storage area so part of our reinforcements and kickers are in an extremely enclosed space. Being the thinnest guy on our crew, I was voluntold to do it.
